In response to this past weekend’s natural disaster on Kauaʻi, Kahala CrossFit owner and Kauaʻi native, Shane Davies, and Coach, Kauaʻi Native, and Programmer, Rico Jimenez are calling upon the community to come together and lend a helping hand by participating in a tribute Aloha WOD, ʻOnipaʻa Kauaʻi.
How to participate in ‘Onipa’a Kaua’i
Step 1: Find out if your CrossFit affiliate is participating. Don’t see them on the list? Thats okay! Send them this link so that they can become a participating affiliate (its free) or find an affiliate that is participating.
Interested in hosting? Find out more here.
See a list of participating affiliates here.
Step 2: Your registration fee will be a suggested donation of $20 to the Hanalei-Haena Flooding Fund GoFundMe. Our goal is to assist in the recovery efforts on Kauaʻi by helping the Hanalei-Haena Flooding Fund reach their goal of raising $1,000,000 to provide clean water, food, and shelter to the displaced residents of Kauaʻi.
Step 3: Get your team together (you need a total of 4) and bring your donation receipt to your affiliate to get your heat time (times vary, please check with the participating affiliate for the times they are hosting ‘Onipa’a Kaua’i).
Step 4: Crush the WOD and be a part of the conversation. Use the hashtags #onipaakauai and #alohawod to help spread the word. Get others to join by letting them know that you and your affiliate are participating.
Manaʻo behind the creation of this WOD
“Kauaʻi is a special place. What makes it so special and unique is the Aloha spirit that breathes through its people. The people of Kauaʻi are known to stand together when faced with disaster, tragedy, and hardship. This team WOD is in honor of our ʻohana on Kauaʻi. Teams of 4 will stand together for 28 minutes which represents the 28 inches of rain that fell on April 14, 2018.”
